History of SureFire Flashlights – Made in the USA
SureFire began in 1969 when a Ph.D. engineer from Cal Tech realized that there was a use future with lasers. Dr. John Matthews started the Newport Corporation with a goal of exploring the use of lasers for industry.
After much success in the laser industry John decided to figure out if his laser technology could be used in his hobby of shooting. In 1979 he designed and patented a laser sight for guns. The product was not one that was ready to use and it would need much more research and testing to create.
Shortly after John and small team of technical staff from the Newport Corporation bought out the laser sight business and started a new company named Laser Products where they could focus all of their time on the creation of laser sites for guns. The first few products were for the Colt Trooper and the Ruger Mini-14 but, the company really took off when in 1984 when Los Angeles was going to host the Olympics.
The LAPD SWAT team used the companies laser mounted shotguns for security during the Olympics. After years of trial and error to create a commercially viable laser site the company’s relationship with the police department lead to the creation of a weapon-mounted flashlight. With this the SureFire WeaponLight was created and tactical operations in low light conditions were forever changed.
The Surefire flashlights made laser products the leader in the industry of small, durable, and reliable flashlights. Eventually the SureFire flashlights name became such a big priority of the company that they changed their name to SureFire LLC. Some of the top tactical flashlights in the world come from SureFire, they are in an elite group of high quality manufactures that definitely deserve your attention and research when looking for the best tactical flashlight for your needs.
