Before You Buy
When looking at flashlights to buy you need to consider the various options. The first option you need to consider is the brightness. How many brightness levels does the light offer? What is the maximum and minimum amount of lumens? Look at the other options the light includes to ensure it has everything you need. Does the light offer hidden modes for emergency situations? Can the light work as a self-defense tool? Consider how durable the light is. You want something that is going to last, so check the IPX rating as well as impact resistance levels. Looking at the options available helps ensure you pick the light you need for the task at hand. Check out our Survival Flashlight Buyers Guide here for more.
The Fenix TK35UE is the new and improved version of the Fenix TK35. The updated Fenix TK35UE now offers more lumens and a longer beam distance with a new CREE XHP 50 LED. With the new LED the TK35UE can now emit a maximum of 2,000 lumens using two 18650 batteries or four CR123A batteries. The Fenix TK35UE features an orange peel reflector rather than a smooth reflector. The orange peel reflector produces a 75-degree wide beam angle to provide you with maximum mid-range coverage.
The Fenix TK35UE offers five brightness levels, plus Strobe and SOS mode. To prevent the light from dimming as the battery ages Fenix uses a digitally regulated output that keeps the brightness levels constant. With the intelligent memory circuit, the Fenix TK35UE will recall the last setting used when powered on.
- Orange Peel Reflector

Fenix TK35UE Features & Benefits
Dual button tail switches provide complete control over the Fenix TK35UE. The bigger switch powers the light on and off. The smaller switch switches between the various output modes. Lightly tapping the bigger switches provides access to the momentary on feature. To turn the light on or off you will need to fully press the bigger switch. Clicking the smaller switch while the light is powered in allows you to cycle through the five brightness levels. To enter Strobe mode you need to press and hold the smaller switch for one second with the light turned on. To enter SOS mode the smaller switch will need to be held for three seconds with the light powered on.
The Fenix TK35UE can run on either two 18650 batteries or four CR123A batteries, but low voltage warning only works with the 18650s. The low voltage warning will automatically downshift the light to a lower brightness level once the voltage reaches a preset point. If you are using the light in Low mode and the battery drops to the preset point, the light will blink three times every five minutes. The Fenix TK35UE will not turn off until the batteries are completely dead.
When working in Turbo or High modes the Fenix TK35UE generates a fair amount of heat. Users even report the lens of the light becomes hot to the touch. Generating too much heat can internally damage the light without overheat protection. The Fenix TK35Ue can operate in Turbo mode for five minutes and on High mode for 30 minutes. Once those times are up, the light will automatically step down to lower output modes to prevent the light from overheating.
If you are in the market for an EDC style that provides tactical abilities you need to take a closer look at the Fenix TK35UE. This new and improved light by Fenix is not called the “Ultimate Edition” for nothing. After spending several hours reading through reviews online, I have discovered my good opinion is shared by other flashlight enthusiasts. Several reputable sites offer positive reviews of the Fenix TK35UE
While the overall opinion of the Fenix TK35UE is good that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its flaws. One thing that can be improved with the light is its grip. Many people take note that the light isn’t as grippy as others, holding and manipulating the light with one hand is rather awkward. The grip has been improved from the original Fenix TK35, but can still use some work.
If you need a flashlight that is just as bright as the Fenix TK35UE but is perhaps a little easier to use look no further than the Nitecore P36. Using a CREE MT-G2 LED that Nitecore P36 can emit up to 2,000 lumens using two 18650 batteries or four CR123A batteries. Unlike the Fenix TK35Ue, the Nitecore P36 offers 10 brightness levels and five special modes for a true multifunctional light. The Nitecore P36 is operated via a multifunctional rotary switch, no more worries about which switch you have to click to access which mode.
If you are looking for something that is just a little less powerful than the Fenix TK35UE but offers all of the same amazing features the Fenix TK35 is a great choice. The Fenix TK35 uses a CREE XM-L2 U2 LED to emit up to 960 lumens. The smooth reflector allows the beam to shine up to 1,164 feet with a long throwing beam. Like the Fenix TK35UE, the Fenix TK35 offers five brightness levels, plus Strobe and SOS mode. Both lights utilize the dual switches in the tail cap, but the buttons on the Fenix TK35 don’t protrude as much. Check out our Fenix TK35 Review here.
The Klarus RS30 is a great alternative to the Fenix TK35UE if you are in need of something a bit more powerful. To emit up to 2,400 lumens of light the Klarus RS30 utilizes two CREE XM-L2 U2 LEDS. The newly designed reflector allows users to have both a focused beam and a floodlight to improve illumination. The light can use either two 18650 batteries or four CR123 batteries. The dual LEDS are on dedicated circuits allowing the light to function on a single 18650 or two CR123 batteries. The dual side switches provide access to all 5 brightness levels offered by the Klarus RS30.
